36 Hours in NYC

The weekend after school was out Matt had a meeting in NYC.  He knows I love to go to NYC but we have never been together.  We arranged with our friends to stay with the kids and we left Sunday morning and came back Monday night.  Quick but exciting!

Matt usually flies in, attends his meeting, gets something to eat and flies back home.  I gave him my tour of the city and what I love about being in this wild and crazy place!

post finished by Matt...What a contrast we found.  In the afternoon we stopped by the Temple and even talked with some of the members outside the building (it was Sunday afternoon).  Senator Reid was there addressing a single adult conference along with some of the apostles.  It is a beautiful building and really stands out.

So, here is the contrast...the Tony Awards was that night and a large screen and viewing area was setup in Times Square.  The opening scene was all about musicals being for more than gays and poked fun at mormons - all night in fact.  The quiet serenity of the church building compared with the irreverence of the city was striking.

We watched for a minute, but had walked about a hundred miles with a couple of million people, or so it seemed, so we did not stay out too long!

We were going to head out early to find the fox and friends crew, but neither of us could will ourselves out of bed.  So, we caught the clean up crew at Today - which interestingly enough, is the most professional crew on Today.

Wall Street was cool and the ground zero site was neat to experience also.  It gives you a greater sense of what our fellow citizens went through on that awful morning.  I can only imagine the fear and chaos.  It was inspiring to see the Statue of Liberty so close to that site - it reminds you of our resilience and blessings of freedom.

Rice pudding - it was tasty, but the texture and temperature was not great!  Although, as you can see, that did not stop me from eating my whole serving.  Kids are starving in Africa you know?

What a cute couple, that nice girl hanging out with her old man.  He must be rich, or so the Rice to Riches girls say...

We had a nice late lunch on the pier prior to heading to the airport.  It was a great 36 hours and we had a really good time exploring the city together.  Next time we are bringing the kids!
