Ha, ha, really it was an apple orchard. Living near Chicago, you sometimes get this image of blacktop, brownstones and mean streets. I'm sure there is plenty of that near the city, but we are equally close to the country. Illinois is one of the largest corn producers in the nation, and is really fairly rural outside of Chicago.
We decided it would be fun to take the kids to the orchard to actually let them see where apples come from and even have a chance to pick a bushel. It was a nice drive up to an area with a dozen or so orchards. We stopped at a couple and made sure to get a few bags full of apples.
Looks like we were inflicting tons of pain, right?
We also found a fun farm that had a raspberry patch, honey and apple butter. We sampled a little of everything, picked a quart of berries and headed home. The giant chair was too much to pass up.
It's hard to describe the scale of the chair, but I'm not getting any smaller and this chair swallowed us up!
Success! Apples in her hair, on her face and on the chair. What more could a kid ask for on a nice fall day?
