Kiersten and Chloe at the Derby...
Austin looking good in his glasses and uniform! He is growing up too fast!
Austin has worked hard this year and we finished his Bear before we left North Carolina. Again, I knew that if we waited until March/April with the move and all we may not get it finished. Thanks to Brandy Turner for all her hard work as Austin's leader. Great Job Austin!
The RACE...the pinewood derby has lots of life lessons that go along with it and this year was no exception. First, they want to the scouts to build them, but if you truly want to win it usually takes a lot of help from dad. What to do? Second, you have no idea how your child is going to do so you must prepare him for all outcomes. What if they don't win a single race? What is someone else doesn't win a single race? What if they win EVERY race? on and on and on.
Austin's car was designed almost fully by him...he decorated and painted and then we had to get really creative to get enough weight on the car. He was successful - won a few races, lost a few races. It was a great night.
What Austin will remember most about the night is that Matt stayed in Charlotte all week just to attend the Pinewood Derby with his son. We know it was a sacrifice, especially because just 2 weeks later he was going to have to stay home again to get us all packed up. I know it meant a lot to Austin to have his dad there to cheer him on!
