We decided to try a different scout camp this year, much further north in Wisconsin, and more importantly, one where they cooked our meals. It was situated between two lakes so the boys could swim, boat and canoe. Scout camp is fun, and funny, as the boys have to listen and learn alot before they are allowed to do. So, two days of non stop classes, prior to getting wet, shooting bows, etc.
We were very fortunate this year as the weather was spectacular. Nice cool nights, warm days and almost no bugs. We camped with another troop and had nearly two dozen boys, so everyone had someone to hang out with during the day.
Luxurious showers, which were only a mile from our camp. You could almost get from the shower back to camp without getting sweaty and dirty, almost.
Although difficult to see, this camp had a working forge where the boys were able to make stuff out of iron. It was fun to see the heating of the iron and then learning how to work like a blacksmith. The only downside, it was a couple mile hike from our camp.
Ready, set, dive. Just kidding, more like, ready, set, jump into four feet deep water!
Our campsite was set in a nice clearing with plenty of shade and quick access to our trailer.
Mess hall living, what a life. Food was great the first day, but by the end of the week, we were ready for something healthy, like Culvers!
The other thing we really enjoyed was the daily presentation of the colors and reminder of the patriotic side of scouting. For all of the goofiness and challenges with scouting, being reminded that we are free to do as we wish in our country is worth the time and effort to get to camp.
